Hi, my name is Jessica! I enjoy watching anime, listening to music, (specifically Selena Quintanilla) and coding whatever comes to mind. I aspire to become a software engineer in the near future and help raise the number of women in STEM.

Hey everyone! My name is Daniel (he/him) and I’m from Los Angeles. My projected course of study is a major in computer science and perhaps a minor in Mandarin at Dartmouth College. Recently, I wrapped up my participation in Google's Code Next Connect program. My experience in the program is one I consider to be invaluable. It is the primary reason I am eager to pursue computer science during my post-secondary education. I love the problem-solving aspect of coding environments, especially because students in Code Next Connect are encouraged to prioritize a hands-on approach to specific tasks. What was most rewarding about the program, however, is that I found a cohort of peers with which I had the freedom to make mistakes and pair program. The connections I made during my time in Code Next Connect are ones I know I’ll continue to cherish and maintain in the future. Also, I love listening to music any opportunity I get to. Many of the artists I listen to include Kota The Friend, Kendrick Lamar, a few Steven Universe soundtracks, and J. Cole. A fun fact about me is that I’ve been practicing Mandarin my entire life and have become fluent in the language. More recently, one of my larger ambitions has been to publish a book, but I’m still roadmapping my ideas! At Dartmouth, I’m interested in exploring the DALI Lab and hopefully prototyping a resource that can create a positive impact. Cheers! Daniel Hernandez

Connect (Online Program), Class of 2024

High schoolSouth Hills High School

My name is Anjelina Jasso and I was born and raised in West Covina, California. Currently, my dream is to work at Spotify as a back-end developer, as I find so much happiness through both computer science and music. Although, if I later change my path to become a materials scientist, that could work too! I see these jobs, not as dreams, but as real potential opportunities now thanks to Google's Code Next Connect program! Code Next has offered me a chance to learn how to code and create my own websites (I took intro to web development as my first class at Code Next), as I had no prior computer science knowledge. I now find myself saying "I like to code!", when someone asks about my hobbies. In Code Next, the teachers were incredibly interactive, and made sure we understood every topic that was being taught and demonstrated. Through this pandemic, I've realized that teaching, as well as learning online, is not easy AT ALL! I currently volunteer at an after school tutoring organization called "Kumon Math and Reading". I've been enrolled as a student in this program since 4th grade, and just recently completed the entire math curriculum, which goes through AP Calc BC. As I'm starting to become an online tutor due to the pandemic, I realize the stress that teachers go through, therefore I respect Code Next teachers on a whole other level. Not only has Code Next taught me computer science skills, but Code Next has taught me how to work together with people to create magic through technology. Code Next has also taught me plenty of leadership skills - as class president at my school, I must show leadership through everything I do. Code Next has given me confidence which has helped tremendously at school. Before Code Next, I created three different clubs at my school (a tutoring club, a club for freshmen to make connections, and a music appreciation club), as well as partake in other clubs such as GirlsWhoStem, Women Empowerment Student Association (W.E.S.A), and Activism Club (a volunteering club). After having been in Code Next, I can say with ease that my newfound confidence has allowed me to better manage students in my club and take better control of more meetings. To end things off, I am and will always be beyond thankful towards Google's Code Next Connect program, and every opportunity that has come with it, but most importantly, I owe it all to the Code Next teachers and volunteers, because without them, this program would not be possible!

Connect (Online Program), Class of 2026

High schoolWestwood High School

Hi there! My name is Uma Sthanu, and I am a student with a passion for Computer Science and Business. My goal is to help bridge the gaps in education and healthcare globally, and I strongly believe in the potential of technology to bring this change. With this goal in mind, I have incubated 2 companies even as a pre-teen that I am still actively working on: T2L Academy, an Ed-tech startup, to provide education for all, removing economic barriers. Making resources accessible to all through videos delivered online & creating a learning hub to help K-8 students, I hope to increase participation and exposure for the underprivileged to expand their learning beyond the school curriculum. As someone who had the fortune to be able to participate in various elementary, middle, and high school school competitions in Science, Math, Arts & Literature, I believe that encouraging participation in these competitions will make learning more fun for all. Sayffer is a Health-tech startup that provides a suite of applications to help improve healthcare on the global scale. Our first project, building the Sayffer mobile application, worked to create a secure & compliant health data sharing application for K-12 staff, teachers & parents. The mission is to digitize the manual communication and collaboration that exists in K-12 around health data. The application is accessible to all and available on all mobile platforms, built to ensure HIPAA & FERPA compliance. Our most recent project is TBDetect (tbdetect.sayffer.com). I recognized the potential of technology of AI & Machine Learning to solve problems at a global scale and decided to use Machine Learning to solve the ongoing Tuberculosis pandemic, which, despite being centuries old, continues to kill over a million a year, especially in Africa and South Asia. I hope that TBDetect can help many nonprofit organizations and smaller hospitals battling Tuberculosis around the world and struggling with the lack of sufficient qualified medical resources. In the past, I have completed a certification on Machine Learning for Healthcare from Stanford University, and on Design Thinking for Innovation and Business Strategy from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. I have also obtained other marketing and data science certifications from Google, IBM and Hubspot, attended a Girls in Engineering summer camp at UC Berkeley, and is part of the Google CodeNext Class of 2023. I am also a 7-time Science Fair winner at the regional, state, and national levels – finishing State 1st in the Software & Systems category in 2022, being a Broadcom MASTERS semifinalist (Top 300 in the Nation) in 2021, winning the Broadcom Coding with Commitment Award & the Society of Women in Engineering Award for Excellence in Science, Engineering and Mathematics for 6-8th graders in 2020, the UT Austin Dell Medical School Future Health Leader Award in 2018 for her earlier projects in science, technology, and healthcare, the Michael & Susan Dell Healthy Living Center Health Innovation award in 2023, and the BioAustin Health Innovation award that same year. In addition, I have participated in business competitions such as DECA and FBLA, and will go on to represent the State of Texas at the International Career Development Conference for the former in April 2023.
