Oakland Technical High School

I was born and raised in Oakland and was introduced to Code Next through the Computer Science Academy at Oakland Technical high school. I spend my time juggling rigorous academics while engaging in Code Next’s unique computer science curriculum. I am interested in leadership development, along with studying business, communication and technology. As a sophomore, I joined the Linux Operating Systems club for two terms, the mobile IOS app development club and several workshops. In summer 2020, I joined TeamEdge, and worked with a team of four (2 Oakland + 2 Harlem) students to win the Code Next 2020 Hackathon! I am the co-captain of my school’s Mock Trial team and give back to my community by volunteering as a tutor for a younger student, whom I hope will join a future Code Next generation. When I’m not coding, you’ll find me rooting for Liverpool FC or casually playing soccer. I’m super grateful for the opportunities that Code Next has given me to think, make and lead.

Leadership in Motion
Code Next Project

Leadership in Motion is a program I designed to expose middle school students in underrepresented communities to the field of technology through mentorship from diverse high school students who have participated in Code Next. This not only gives younger students free access to tech education, it also provides high school students with leadership opportunities. https://www.facebook.com/Google/posts/10159640944547838 https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/education/code-next-student-paying-it-forward/ https://btgcollegeprep.org/this-codenext-student-is-paying-it-forward/

Melly
Code Next Project

Melly is a web application designed to connect practitioners and patients via a video call in order to provide medical assistance (physical or mental) to low income individuals. My Hackathon team worked together (with the help of two Code Next coaches) to develop Melly and present our project during the Code Next 2020 Hackathon. After winning the Hackathon in August 2020, my team and I meet weekly to continue progressing Melly, with the hope of producing a finished web application that can be published globally.
